7 KAŠTELA
The city of Kaštela, with a thousand-year-old tradition, is known for its churches, castles, fortresses, and indigenous gardens. As a unique city in Croatia, composed of seven villages, Kaštela has no traditional center and uses six different postal codes. Located between the two UNESCO cities of Split and Trogir, Kaštela stands out for having the oldest olive tree in the Adriatic, 1,500 years old, as well as the largest and widest olive tree in the area.
This city impresses at first glance with its Dalmatian "vibe" and relaxed lifestyle. Kaštela is a place where it's easy to immerse yourself in the Mediterranean atmosphere, and visitors often return to explore all seven historic locations that make up the city. Particularly noteworthy is Kaštel Lukšić, known for the legend of the ill-fated lovers Miljenko and Dobrila, whose story has been passed down for generations and is brought to life each summer during the Festival of Love, the Days of Miljenko and Dobrila.
For an unforgettable view, there's the Malačka viewpoint on the Kozjak hill, which protects Kaštela from the winds. Kaštela gained global fame also thanks to the series "Game of Thrones," which was filmed at the Kaštilac Castle in Kaštel Gomilica, a spectacular fortress built on a sea rock and connected to the mainland by a stone bridge.
The natural beauty and slopes of Kozjak offer unforgettable cycling and hiking trails, providing a beautiful view of the Kaštela field, the bay, and the Dalmatian islands. A special place among Kaštela’s gardens is held by the Biblical Garden on the slopes of Kozjak, a mystical green oasis with the small church of St. Mary of Špiljana and a small vineyard dedicated to Kaštela’s crljenak (Zinfandel).
The beautiful beaches in Kaštel Štafilić, Resnik, Kaštel Stari, and Divulje invite swimmers to dive into the depths of the crystal-clear sea. The Gabine, Kaštel Stari, and Štafilić beaches are particularly reserved for the youngest, and they are equipped with slides and swings. Small boats greet you at every step, the cries of seagulls accompany every glance at the sky, and the beauty of the town takes your breath away.
For sailors, there is the Kaštela Marina, and for everyone craving good entertainment, there is the Kaštela Summer Festival, which lasts from June to September. Along with a variety of events, the most important and visited ones include: Fishermen's festivals, the Sauce and Salsa Festival, where you can always enjoy quality local fish, drink fine Dalmatian wine, and eat cuttlefish risotto or perhaps a white fish stew at a symbolic price.
The beautiful Kaštela promenade offers a pleasant beauty at sunset, while the scent of Mediterranean herbs mixes with the fragrance of pine and cypress trees. The walk creates a sense of intoxication, which quickly lulls you into sleep.
